BIO
William Palm was born Somer’s Point, NJ in 1970. He received his BA degree in Fine Arts and certification to teach art from Montclair State University in Upper Montclair, NJ. He spent several years dedicated to creating and teaching art. In 2008 he enrolled in the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA to pursue an MFA in Figurative Painting, which he will complete in December, 2011. He is currently teaching art at Walter O. Krumbiegel Middle School in Hillside, NJ, were he continues to be inspired by his students’ creativity.
William focuses his creative energy on narrative painting, which he feels encompasses all the painting techniques he learns at the Academy of Art University. In creating a composition, he incorporates his understanding of painting the figure in an environment to appear natural. He approaches his paintings much like a movie director puts film together, selecting the right character, proper scenery, and necessary props then using them to tell a story which is believable. William’s current work, “Glimpses of Everyday Life,” is a series of narrative paintings which capture a person experiencing an intimate moment in their lives. He is constantly in search of good ideas for his paintings and is most intrigued by those which are emotionally endearing. He strives to show the emotional energy which attracted him to the initial moment on his canvas. William continues to paint with passion in carrying on the tradition of creating narrative images. Inspired by the works of the great masters, he looks to his daily observations of people and places as inspiration for his work.
William currently works from his in home studio in Avenel, NJ.
