Artist Statement
Glimpses into Everyday Life is a visual narrative of the people in my life. Through these paintings I seek to express stories which capture intimate moments in their lives. I often seek out and choose emotionally endearing moments because they are most intriguing to me. These are the instances that I want to capture on canvas to share with others.
Each painting begins with the emotional energy I wish to convey in a scene. For instance, in Preparing, I show the moment a father lovingly guides his son. Easter Dress shows the focused intensity of my daughter playing dress up. In 3:15, I have painted a classroom scene of a friend at the end of a long day of teaching.
I approach each image the same way a movie director plans a movie, making sure that the character, scenery, and props work together in a unified way to convey a clear and believable story. A painting is complete when I feel the story can be effectively read. I invite the viewers to visually participate in these moments, with the hope that they will be able to find a personal connection.
